Blogtrottr's digests have always worked on a shared set of intervals, from every couple of hours up to once a day. That's great, but it doesn't let you control when your email arrives, and if you follow several feeds, you get a separate digest for each one.
Flex digests fix that. They've been in beta with a small group of users, and the beta is now open to anyone on a paid plan. If you'd like to try them, read on.
Pick your own schedule
With a flex digest, you choose how often it's sent, and for daily or weekly digests, exactly when:
- Hourly, or every few hours, spread evenly through the day.
- Daily, at a time of your choosing.
- On chosen days of the week, at a time of your choosing. Pick a single day for a weekly digest, or any combination, like Monday to Friday or just weekends.
So a digest can arrive at 7am before you start work, or once a week on a Saturday morning, rather than whenever the interval happens to fall.
Times follow the timezone set in your account, so a 7am digest stays at 7am even if your clocks change for daylight saving.
Combine feeds into one email
A flex digest can also gather a number of feeds together, and send everything new from all of them in a single email. For example, you could get:
- Everything new from your webcomics feeds, every Friday at 9am.
- Everything new from your work-related feeds, every weekday at 8am.
- A weekly round-up of a handful of quieter blogs that only post now and then.
How to join
The beta is open to anyone on a paid plan. If you'd like to take part, email [email protected] from the address on your account, and you'll be added.
Trying it out
Once your account is in the beta, you'll see a new Flex digest option in your subscription's schedule settings. It sits alongside the existing digest options rather than replacing them, and your current subscriptions carry on exactly as they are until you choose to move one over.
It's still a beta, so there may be rough edges. Feedback is very welcome, whether that's something that doesn't work, something that's confusing, or something that would make it more useful for you.
